Being a parent is a hard job, a complicated job and sometimes a lonely job. And, it may be the most important job parents will ever have.
Parents As Teachers (PAT) is a universal access, early childhood family education program that provides free, one-on-one guidance and support to parents interested in shaping their birth to five year old children into healthy and functional children ready to enter school and eager to succeed in life. Their goal is to help families participating in the program through parent education, early literacy coaching and family support. They provide personal one-on-one monthly visits, parent/child workshops, parent only forums, developmental screenings and resource networking.
PAT is dedicated to ensuring children in our community are provided with every opportunity to succeed. By working with parents on areas such as early literacy, social-emotional development, gross and fine motor skills, PAT children can enter school better prepared in the necessary Kindergarten readiness skills.
In their PAT parent education and family support program, PAT-certified parent educators are trained to translate valuable scientific research on early brain development in to specific when, what, how and why information for families. By learning what to expect during each stage of development, parents can easily capture the teachable moments in everyday life to enhance their child's language development, intellectual growth, social development and motor skills.
There is no charge to families for any of the services the PAT program has to offer. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about how to maximize your child's potential.
Parents are the first and most influential teacher for their children. A tremendous amount of learning takes place before children ever enter school. You can learn meaningful and valuable strategies in order to assist your child in being a life-long, successful learner.
Through monthly visits, arranged with a Parent Educator, at a PAT center or in your home parents are introduced to play groups, gatherings, and parent educational sessions. Parents as Teachers is the overarching program philosophy of providing parents with child development knowledge and parenting support. For more information and to find a location near you, click here.
